We're Building a School in Africa

THE PROBLEM

Identity Crisis

African Americans want to know more about their roots; the history, culture and the resources of Africa. Unfortunately, there are no institutions dedicated to exposing African Americans to authentic African culture and tradition.

THE SOLUTION

Authentic Cultural Instruction

The Abeokuta Campus will provide culturally specific education that reconnects African Americans with their ancestral roots and traditions. Students will experience high quality language and cultural education for Africans and by Africans.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Education Abroad

Being immersed in authentic African customs, traditions, and beliefs provides African Americans with answers to important questions about our heritage and identity. The best way to learn about Africa is in Africa!

STRUCTURED FOR SUCCESS

Expertise & Professionalism

Since 2003, the Orisa Lifestyle Academy has provided high quality learning experiences for school aged children and families in the United States of America. Now, to commemorate TWENTY YEARS of dedication to teaching Yoruba tradition and culture, the Orisa Lifestyle Academy is building our first school in Africa.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Building the School

In May 2024, we completed Phase I of the building process. This includes establishing water, security, administrative offices, banking and certification. We're sparing no expense in the process of building a safe and comfortable learning environment.

OUR FOUNDER

Oloye Obafemi Origunwa, MA

I'm CHIEF OBAFEMI ORIGUNWA. I know what it's like to feel totally overwhelmed by learning Yorùbá tradition. I remember the beginning of my journey, when it seemed like I was never going to break the cycle of chaos, I thought, THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY TO LEARN THIS! So, very early in my practice, I decided to take ownership of my learning experience. I used my professional training to organize my notes and recordings. I used my natural gifts and talents to learn from the most reputable priests. Finally, I did not hesitate to dedicate myself to serving my community. Since I founded the Orisa Lifestyle Academy, I have helped thousands of African Americans reconnect with African culture.

"There is no single word, really; I am reconnected to my ancestors."

- Kelly, Chicago

"We’re on a journey that I believe is a different kind of knowing than what we’re accustomed to."

- Makanjuola, SOS

"He’s American with a vast knowledge in African cultural spiritual system. Which allows him to understand the type of struggle we deal with being an African American and can provide real guidance living in the American system."

- Fasunle, Sacramento
